Non-custodial Staking is Activated: Lock in Your Node Settings Today!

As of September 1, 2022, non-custodial staking has been activated on Pocket Mainnet!

We’ve already talked about the benefits of non-custodial staking, so please refer to that blog post to learn more.

But the most important part you need to know, as a node runner, is what you need to do right now:

We recommend you perform a node transaction of any sort on your node as soon as possible, and in the process, specify whether you wish to convert your node to non-custodial staking, or would like to lock in custodial staking on your node.

Once non-custodial staking is activated, all nodes will be in an unspecified state – technically custodial (as that was the only option before) but not explicitly set as such.

Therefore, nodes will be able to explicitly set their desired preference of operation: custodial or non-custodial.

However, nodes will only have a single opportunity to set this change. Any successful node transaction (such as editing stake) will set this for the node.

But do note that the commands to run node transactions have changed. Please see the documentation for the specific syntax changes.

Also, if you do convert your node to non-custodial staking, be very careful entering the output address. You cannot change the output address after it is set. If you accidentally mistype the output address, your funds and your stake will be sent to that address and will be lost forever.

We’re always developing new features to make Pocket Network more performant and flexible to serve our node runners’ needs. Connect with us on Discord to learn more about what we’re up to, and thanks for being a part of our community!
